Out of date fish cakes. Just discovered that my favourite fresh fish cakes are out of date by three days - use by date of 17th Aug. If I cook them for lunch will they be ok? Just hate wasting food / throwing it away!

DeedlessIndeed · 09/01/2024 21:27. Supermarket fishcakes are more potato than fish, so additional carbs seems a but much, however teens may need the stodge! I serve with a salad with anchovies and lemon dressing. I'd stick to your Asian salad suggestion, but maybe include some additional raw veg in the salad to bulk it up.

Savoury rice . Fry long grain rice with a chopped onion about 8 mins. Add clove garlic fry another 2 min. Add carton chopped tomatoes and either veg or chicken stock, about 375 mls. Simmer 15 min until liquid absorbed. Sprinkle some herbs (optional). Yummy and easy.

Baked beans and homemade chips. Thai salad. Don't go shopping to make up a meal for a reduced price item! Rice and/or veg is fine. Just think about anything you have kicking around that can flavour the accompaniments along the lines of similar taste to your fishcakes eg chilli, lemon, garlic, lime, basil.

Or asparagus and mayonnaise. make a tomatoe samba, 4-5 tomatoes or 1 tin of tomatoes, 1 tsp of chilli flakes or powder, lemon juice, fresh herbs, corriander, basil, etc salt pepper, 1tsp of grated ginger, 1 tsp of crushed garlic, blend all these ingre in a food processor then transfer to a pan with a little oil and cook fo 10-15 minutes.

They're the melt in the middle kind. I was going to serve with colcannon and a poached egg on top or with jacket spuds and salad.

NurseRosie · 26/02/2016 10:40. I make coconut rice with Thai dishes. Really easy, make it in the microwave, Basmati rice, coconut milk, lemon grass and a little of water. Really lovely. I also like to do stir fry veg with soy, honey, ginger, garlic and chilli. Thai is my fav food. Hope you enjoy x.

For the grown ups I ended up serving it with a cannelini bean salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli and a basic mustard vinegarette) Essentially I used these things. tinned salmon. potatoes. red pepper. garlic. red onion. ketchup. ginger.

Dip one fish piece at the time, first in the flour, then in the egg. Let the excess egg drip off before coating the fish in the bread crumbs. Coat all sides with bread crumbs. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Saute the fish until each piece, until the bread crumb coating becomes golden-coloured.

Bread and butter. Sweet potato or celeriac mash. Mixed green veg, broccoli Roman cauliflower. Cauliflower cheese. Macaroni cheese. Caponata. Aubergine parmigiana. I usually have salad or a selection of cooked vegetables. Unless you are stingy with your fishcakes you don't need chips with them.
